Six new longship vessels in 2012

Viking River Cruises says it will speed up introduction of its revolutionary new Longships series of vessels and launch six in 2012. Four of the vessels had been scheduled to launch next year as part of the company's USD 250 million expansion. Viking Freya (March 22nd), Viking Idun (March 23rd), Viking Odin (March 24th), and Viking Njord (March 28th) will launch in 2012. Viking Embla and Viking Aegir will be ready in July and August, respectively.

Ship features: 95 comfortable outside staterooms (2 Explorer Suites, 7 Veranda Suites, 39 Veranda Staterooms, 22 French Balcony Staterooms, 25 Standard Staterooms) All suites feature two rooms with a veranda off the living room and a French balcony in the bedroom Sun deck with 360-degree views and shaded sitting area; organic herb garden and solar panels Aquavit Terrace with a revolutionary indoor/outdoor viewing area at the bow of the ship and grills for al fresco dining Observation lounge and bar with floor-to-ceiling glass doors Restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows for panoramic views Library corner and onboard boutique Elevator Free shipwide wireless internet service Laundry service Ecologically friendly hybrid engines producing less vibrations for a smoother ride

Four new vessels in 2013

Their original plan is to introduce 10 new Longship-class ships by 2014. The additional four vessels will be christened in 2013. The Longships are being designed by Yran & Storbraaten.
